---|---|
PUSH ME in the Space![]() We say that leaders come in all shapes and sizes. Its not your job title that means you are a leader. Its what you do. Artists can be leaders too! Over the next few months we’ll be showing you 12 artist leaders. Each is making work at the moment as part of - all of Unlimited. This art will be part of the London 2012 Festival. Unlimited is principally funded by The National Lottery through the Olympic Lottery Distributor and is delivered in partnership between London 2012, Arts Council England, Creative Scotland, Arts Council of Wales, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the British Council. All these artists are also working with Jo and Sarah from Sync on a new project called PUSH ME. This is a project making films to go on a new digital platform called The Space. Sarah and Jo are working as curators for PUSH ME - this means we are asking questions about the artists and the work they are making. We are working with Watershed, a leading media organisation. We are taking our Sync thinking digital and we're pushing artist leaders out there! We’re going to introduce you to our 12 leading artists over the next few months, 3 at a time... Jez Colborne and Mind the Gap present: irresistible
![]() First of our 3 for this month is Jez Colborne - a composer, musician and performer who has travelled around the UK, USA and China and worked with Mind the Gap to create something truly irresistible. Noisy, dramatic and spectacular, his commission, called Irresistible, is a unique event in the countryside at a place called The Cow & Calf. It will also then be repeated in London. Jez can hear music where most people hear noise. Join Jez as he takes you on a musical journey of alarms, other non-traditional instruments and songs to create a breath-taking symphony! Mish Weaver and Stumble Dancecircus present: Box of Frogs![]() Box of Frogs is a circus show with a difference. 5 acrobats and 2 musicians are on stage and the performance shows different ideas of mental ill health. What is colourful character? What is mad? Stumble plays with people's love of all things Circus (until they get distracted). Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder. Most people experience ups and downs, (highs and lows). It is only when these become so extreme that they make ordinary everyday activities hard that it is called Bipolar Disorder or Manic Depression. From September 2012 Box of Frogs will tour the UK, starting at The Purcell Rooms as part of the Cultural Olympiad Festival, on September 2nd and 3rd 2012. Simon Mckeown and Motion Diabled: Unlimited
![]() Simon Mckeown is fascinated by what normal means. This show - Motion Disabled: Unlimited - is a new version of Motion Disabled which was shown around the world last year. The 2012 version includes some of the UK’s most famous Paralympians. It also includes a large scale inflatable sculpture and an iPhone app! In this work we are allowed to watch, to look, to stare at the way disabled people move. Maybe if we look enough we can see the beauty in their movements and form? Simon, who was named DaDaFest International Artist of Year in 2010, is using this opportunity to do things on a bigger scale – so watch out! Push Yourself
